Flag Football Player of the Week: Locust Grove’s Katie Smith

Katie Smith, a senior quarterback at Locust Grove, is GHSF Daily’s Flag Football Player of the Week. Smith was 63-of-87 passing for 850 yards and 18 touchdowns in comfortable victories over Whitewater, Morrow, Luella and Union Grove. She has 43 TD passes and 1,909 passing yards for the season. Locust Grove is 12-0 on the season and 6-0 in Division 2 Area 4. Smith also is a standout goalkeeper for Locust Grove’s soccer team. “Katie has a remarkable ability to stay focused and maintain composure under pressure,” Locust Grove coach Catherine Patton said. “Despite being only in her second year as a quarterback, Katie has displayed natural leadership, earning the trust and respect of her teammates both on and off the field.”

GHSF Daily, in partnership with Score Atlanta, will recognize a Flag Football Player of the Week each Monday through the December state finals. Winners will be presented with an award at their school and be featured on the “Georgia High School Sports Daily” TV show on the Peachtree Sports Network. Nominations can be sent by Sunday each week by clicking here.
