Week 3 Student-Athlete of the Week: Peachtree Ridge’s Darnell Kelly

Darnell Kelly, a junior quarterback at Peachtree Ridge, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Kelly is an honor student with a 3.5 GPA. He has passed for 405 yards and three touchdowns in his first two games this season. He has offers from several schools, including Kentucky, Colorado State and UMass. Kelly is a volunteer at the local co-op, organizing and distributing food to families in need, and part of a group that reads to local elementary school children. “Darnell is a very good student in the classroom and is most definitely a student of the game,” head coach Matt Helmerich said. “He loves watching film and working his craft – which is a full-time gig if you’re playing quarterback at the highest level of Georgia high school football. … Darnell has some lofty goals, as do many of the high school football players in Georgia. So, it’s great to see him attacking the goals in the classroom, in the weight room, and on the field every day.”
